Conference and Concert by the Caravelas Research Group / CESEM / NOVA Mafra

The conference "One Dynasty, Two Reigns" marks the bicentenary of the death of King João VI of Portugal and the birth of Emperor Pedro II of Brazil. It aims to reflect on music on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and on the exchanges between them, while also broadening the discussion on the interaction between the Luso-Brazilian world and other European, African and American contexts during the colonial and post-colonial periods. This conference is organised by Caravelas, the Research Group for the History of Music in Portugal and Brazil of the Centre for the Study of Music (CESEM), under the coordination of Professor David Cranmer, and will take place primarily at the facilities of NOVA FCSH in Lisbon. The programme includes a panel featuring four speakers, followed by a piano concert.
