Founded in 1978, Coral Évora gave its first public performance on 31 January 1979 at the Church of Graça in Évora. Throughout its long history, the choir has performed across Portugal as well as in Spain, Germany, Belgium, and France. In 1982, during Pope John Paul II’s visit to Portugal, it performed at the celebration presided over by His Holiness in Vila Viçosa. The choir took part in the recording of the CD The Best Choirs of the Alentejo Region, produced by Heinz Frieden with the support of the Ministry of Culture, and also contributed to an album by the group Ronda dos Quatro Caminhos. In 2003, it released its own CD, From the Plains Is Born the Dream... and from the Dream Comes the Voice. In 2009, it was awarded the Municipal Merit Medal (Silver Class) by the City of Évora in recognition of its 30 years of service to community associations and choral music.
