Mbye Ebrima (kora, calabash and vocals) carries the rich Mandinga-Kaabunké tradition through music, storytelling and the kora, a fascinating instrument also represented in the National Museum of Music collection. Born in The Gambia and descended from a renowned djéli family, Mbye is a virtuoso kora player, composer, singer and oral storyteller.
Based in Portugal since 2015, he has collaborated throughout Africa and Europe, blending kora traditions with flamenco, jazz, fado, blues, reggae, hip hop and afrobeat, among other styles. His solo project brings together two koras, a calabash and ancestral stories spanning 73 generations, creating an intimate musical journey through the history, spirituality and healing traditions of the Mande people.
