When the King Has a Birthday... (On the Anniversary of King João V!)

As a result of a partnership between the National Museum of Music, the Gaudium Magnum Foundation, and the Fondazione Pietà de' Turchini, a recording was made last year using the 1758 Antunes Harpsichord, a National Treasure. The project featured French harpsichordist Béatrice Martin and brought into dialogue the Baroque music of Carlos Seixas and Domenico Scarlatti, two central figures in Portuguese musical history during the reign of King João V, alongside the contemporary perspective of António Pinho Vargas. This serves as the starting point for an informal conversation and the unveiling of a new and very special surprise within the permanent exhibition.
