The 1789 Antunes Harpsichord is an instrument built in Lisbon by João Baptista Antunes (1737-1822), son of Manuel Antunes, founder of the celebrated Portuguese Antunes workshop. It is considered the "younger sibling" of the world-renowned 1758 Antunes Harpsichord, built by Joaquim José Antunes and also classified as a National Treasure. Part of the National Museum of Music's collection, this harpsichord remained unplayed for decades following its acquisition in 1944 until it was completely restored by Geert Karman. It was during this relaunch that harpsichordist Fernando Miguel Jalôto first encountered the instrument. In this informal talk, visitors are invited to discover the unique characteristics that make this National Treasure so important.
