Tribute  —  Luiz de Moura Castro in memoriam
National Museum of Music / “The Invention of the Future” Hall

29 August, 4:00 PM
Martim Almeida, piano

This recital, paying tribute to Brazilian pianist Luiz de Moura Castro (1941–2025), brings together a selection of works closely associated with the artist. The programme features Portuguese and Ibero-American music, as well as renowned works by Franz Liszt and César Franck, which he himself performed in concert and recorded, reflecting his career as both a performer and educator between Europe and the Americas. Luiz de Moura Castro influenced several generations of pianists worldwide, and his legacy continues to inspire young musicians.
Martim Almeida is a Portuguese pianist who has performed in Portugal, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and the United States. Born in Coimbra, he began his piano studies with Klara Dolinay and Catarina Peixinho, later studying with Luiz de Moura Castro and Artur Pizarro. He continued his training at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Kathryn Stott and Håvard Gimse. He is currently completing his Master’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with David Kuyken, while also studying fortepiano with Bart van Oort.
