The Alfabeto Ensemble, based in Colombia, presents itself in Portugal for a sonic journey to the heart of the Renaissance. Before the concert on July 18th, he offers a masterclass for musicians and music students interested in sharing knowledge around the historically informed musical practice of Renaissance repertoires. Participants include countertenor Andrés Silva, baritone Antonio Santos, and lutenist Armando Fuentes, under the direction of Julián Navarro, who will play the vihuela de mano.
Julián Navarro holds a doctorate from the University of Barcelona, ??Spain, in 2008, with Cum Laude distinction for his research work dedicated to the Baroque viola. He holds a Master's degree in Music from the Javeriana University in 1998 and continued his training at the Escola de Arts Musicals Luthier and the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya. He is a member of the groups Música Ficta, Alfabeto, and Esfera Armoniosa, ensembles with which he has maintained a permanent concert activity in Colombia, Latin America, the USA, and Europe.
Throughout his career, he has released 17 albums on international record labels. He worked as a full-time professor at Javeriana University and the University of the Atlantic, directed the Music Department at the University of the North, and was Head of the Music Section of the Cultural Sub-Directorate of the Bank of the Republic in Bogotá. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Technological University of Bolívar.
